How might we redesign the Omnipod for kids to reinvent the process of applying the device. By creating a fun experience that builds confidence and eliminates fear. Allowing kids to be kids again.

A look into my process.
Research
Managing diabetes as a kid can feel overwhelming, isolating, and scary. The process of applying the device is painful and the buildup prior is even worse. Wearing the pod forces the child to stand out.
Children with T1D suffer from low self esteem, fear & anxiety, and overwhelming responsibility.
The impact of taking control
Applying a new Omnipod is a mondane task that needs to be done every three days. This task is painful and frightening. If the child is engaged in the treatment, they are less afraid of it. By taking part in the application process, they are taking control of the situation.
User Experience
Brand Partnership
Welly’s are trend-setting bandaids that changed the stigma against bandaids. They are bravery badges, not a sign of weakness.
Flexfabric bandages designed to stay on through playtime. Their colorful designs are exciting and intended to be worn with pride.
Diabetes isn’t something to be embarrassed about. Rather than try to blend in, Omnipod Kids x Welly will help T1D kids stand out.
Concept
Pod Presents Purpose
When unboxing the ‘Omnipod Kids’, the child will find a Pod Present. Their Omnipod, they will reveal a mystery colored adhesive. The adhesive which sticks to the body.
A card placed inside the package will explain the color association with a word of affirmation.
These words of affirmation are meant to inspire the kids. By helping redirect the kids focus.

Device
Protective Patch
The protective patch gets placed over the device for additional support. By overlapping the device’s adhesive, the patch provides further stability.
While most individuals with T1D already use a patch, it is something they must order on their own.
Omnipod Kids x Welly’s is different because it comes in a complete kit. The kit comes in a Welly’s tin, with the device, a Pod Present and patches.
