Mobile Makerspace

How might we create a mobile makerspace that encourages sustainability by giving the community access to a studio and the equipment necessary to repurpose previously loved clothing.

Model created on Solidworks & rendered on Keyshot. Interior design on HomebyMe.

A look into my process.

Research

Makerspaces are not always accessible. They can be difficult to get to, overly priced, and not welcoming. By utilizing a mobile vehicle, we can bring resources to communities, regardless of location or skill level!

It is time for change ... second hand clothing does not needs to be ugly or ill fitting.

This offers an affordable and accessible way for people to explore fashion design. By giving the community resources to repurpose clothing and encourage individuality, we can promote sustainable practices.

Focus

A mobile sewing studio is beneficial for college students & urban residents. Whether the desire is to create something new or simply hem a pair of pants.

In a world increasingly dominated by fast fashion, this space allows people to repurpose and upcycle clothing. This alternative to thrifting helps de-stigmatize second hand clothing.

Second Thread is an educational sewing studio and a space for makers to sell their creation. It is entirely self sustaining as it is powered by donations.
